About Avenged Sevenfold
Massive metalcore band Avenged Sevenfold fused metal, hard rock and pop punk to create their own truly unique hybrid sound that has topped the charts across the world. They have constantly pushed themselves to escalate their creative prowess to grow from teenage upstarts to high mainstream success.
The band have undergone many changes to the line-up, and now currently includes drummer Brooks Wackerman, rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance with Synyster Gates playing lead, vocals provided by M. Shadows and Johnny Christ on bass.
They were first formed during 1999 and took their name from the Cain and Abel story from the Book of Genesis in the Bible whilst still at high school in their home of Huntington Beach, California. Their debut album Sounding The Seventh Trumpet was released in 2001. Recorded on a meagre budget of $2,000, their announcement to the world was initially greeted with poor sales but has subsequently sold over 370,000 copies. It would be followed in 2003 by second album Waking The Fallen, now recognised by Metal Hammer who placed it #6 in their list of 100 Greatest Albums Of The 21st Century.
Their breakthrough would come in 2005 with the release of City Of Evil. The third album would take a more direct metal approach and enjoy sales of 30,000 during the launch week. Continuing the new direction, they enjoyed continued success in 2007 with the eponymously titled fourth album Avenged Sevenfold which would hit #4 in the Billboard 200 and be awarded Album Of The Year by Kerrang!
They were to be blighted by tragedy when founding member and guitarist James ‘The Rev’ Sullivan would be found dead in his home due to accidental overdose in the winter of 2009. The band considered splitting but decided to continue working together. The released the album Nightmare the following year which shot straight to #1 in the Billboard 200.
Their latest LP Hail To The King was released in 2013. Not only did it hit #1 in the States on the Billboard 200 it was the first of their albums to hit #1 in the UK.
