About Beyonce
American singer, songwriter and producer; Beyoncé is a legend. Famous in all four corners of the globe. An icon.
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter started her rise to fame at childhood, participating in singing and dancing competition around her home state of Texas. She captured the world’s attention whilst performing in the R&B group Destiny’s Child.
Managed by her father, Mathew Knowles, Destiny’s Child were formed in 1990. The band were famous for having massive hit singles that contained strong positive messages, particularly for women. Their best known songs included Say My Name, Bills Bills Bills, Survivor and Bootylicious.
Having ridden high in the charts, Destiny’s Child took some time out having a three year hiatus between 2001 and 2004.
In 2003 Beyoncé released her debut album Dangerously In Love. The album redefined her as a solo artist in her own right by topping the album charts in the UK and the USA and winning her five Grammy Awards. The album also contained the two Number 1 singles Crazy In Love and Baby Boy.
Although Destiny’s Child did reform in 2004, their return was to be short lived and they finally disbanded in 2005. Again able to concentrate on her own work, Beyoncé has continued to triumph enjoying ever greater success in becoming a household name.
Building on the themes of strength and empowerment first displayed in her work with Destiny’s Child, Beyoncé proudly declares herself a feminist using her shows as a means to promote female equality. She regularly donates money to good causes and is quick to lend her vocal support at concerts and interviews to causes she believes in.
To date she has released five solo studio albums and sold over 100 million records. Winner of 20 Grammy Awards, she continues to be the most nominated woman in the award’s history and was recognised by The Recording Industry Association Of America as the Top Certified Artist for the decade starting in 2000. She has been listed in Time magazine for two consecutive years in 2013 and 2014 as amongst the top 100 influential people in the world. Forbes magazine listed her as the most powerful female musician of 2015.
