About BOYOCA
The first in a series of tracks anticipating the release of their debut EP ‘He’s A Fool’, ‘Bamboo Mask’ is a slick introduction to BOYOCA’s distinctive organic-drenched brand of electronic, soul-inspired music. A deeply soulful marriage of the organic and the synthetic, the atmospheric cut brims with textured electronics inter-weaved with real instrumentation and guest vocals with nods to Bicep, Maribou State, Jungle and SBTRKT.
Talking about the track the duo say; “We felt Bamboo Mask would be a great opener to introduce listeners to our colour palette. We're always working to tread the line between hard hitting beats, musicianship and songwriting which isn't always easy to achieve.”
Lending vocals to the pair’s dynamic creation are vocalists Julia Guest and Janel Antoneshia, reflecting on how their approach to production changed working with vocals on ‘Bamboo Mask’ BOYOCA say; “Julia did an amazing performance on a track in 2019, but the track never quite made it out of the gate. The theme of the vocal fit so well with what we were trying to achieve with ‘Bamboo Mask’ that we chopped it up, filtered it and looped it to create the “Don’t blame it on the video” hook. Janel joins later in the track with an extension of this theme which she beautifully delivered with her smooth and soulful tone.’
