About Busta Rhymes
Busta Rhymes is one of the biggest names in Hip Hop. With a larger than life personality and his own unique stop/start ragga MC style the American rapper continues to grow in talent and esteem.
Real name Trevor Gordon Smith, Rhymes was born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 20th in 1972. His musical career began as school where he would practice his skills in the playground. Battle rapping whilst a student at Westinghouse High School, also attended by DMX and The Notorious B.I.G., he recalls a time when he lost to Jay-Z.
By 1989 he became a member of the Leaders Of The New School group who would open for Public Enemy. Infamous MC Chuck D would give him the moniker he is now better known as, naming him after America Footballer George “Buster” Rhymes.
Membership of Leaders Of The New School gave him the break he needed and by 1992 he was making appearances on other artist’s work having established a reputation for a new emerging force in rap. His first solo album, The Coming, was released in 1996.
To date, he has released nine studio albums.
Highly regarded, Rhymes has been greatly decorated with awards having won The Michael Jackson Award For Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music for What’s It Gonna Be in 2000 at the Soul Train Music Awards, with whom he has also had another two nominations. He also won Music Video Of The Year at The Source Awards in the 1999. In 2006 he won Best Rap Video at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. He has also been nominated for eleven Grammy Awards.
Not only a world famous rapper, Busta Rhymes has enjoyed an illustrious career on screen having appeared on screen or provided the voice for animated characters in fourteen major movies.
