Chantel McGregor, the female guitar prodigy who defied industry norms, continues to captivate audiences across the UK. At fourteen, major labels told her, "girls don't play guitar like that!" Ignoring this, Chantel enrolled at Leeds College of Music, achieving the first-ever 100% pass mark and earning a First Class Honours degree in Popular Music and the Musician of the Year award.
Chantel's stunning live performances and effortless virtuosity have built her a loyal and growing fan base. Early in her career, she was invited to perform with Joe Bonamassa on his UK tours, a testament to her remarkable talent.
Her 2011 debut album, Like No Other, produced by Livingstone Brown (Ed Sheeran, Robin Trower, Shakira), was praised for its innovative blues-rock sound. One critic even likened her guitar work to "channelling the ghost of Hendrix." . The end result was a beautifully crafted debut album that showcased Chantel’s versatility and talent as a singer-songwriter.
Her follow-up album, Like Control (2015), received critical acclaim for its gothic imagery and tight vocals. ‘All About The Rock’ stated it was ‘recommended for fans of blues, rock, Jeff Buckley, Marillion, Country & Nick Drake. This is a hard album to categorize & pigeon hole which in this day & age of labels & boxes is a good thing.' Chantel's single "Take The Power" was playlisted for five weeks on Planet Rock radio. She has been featured on Sky News, BBC Radio Five Live, and BBC Radio Four.
During the 2020 lockdown, Chantel released a rock cover of Lady Gaga's "Stupid Love" and was featured on the tribute album Gumbo Blues for Dr. John, both through Cleopatra Records. She also collaborated with David ‘Nova’ Nowakowski from the band Scars on 45 on several singles. Her "Shed Sessions" live streams led to two albums being released in August 2021. In 2023 & 2024, Chantel extensively toured solo and with her band, co-headlining with Elles Bailey and performing at major festivals like Maid of Stone. She is currently in the studio writing and recording her third studio album of new material, due for release in 2025, and debuting new tracks on her UK tour.
