San Francisco's Deerhoof mix noise, sugary melodies, and an experimental spirit into utterly distinctive music that made them one of the most acclaimed acts of the 2000s and 2010s. Incredibly prolific, they write and record at an outstanding rate.
Early in 2016, the group released Balter/Saunier, a collaboration with Chicago's 22-piece contemporary music group Ensemble Dal Niente that featured a medley of Deerhoof songs arranged for the ensemble. That July, the band returned with The Magic, an uninhibited set of songs featuring three unused tracks written and recorded for the HBO series Vinyl.
Just over a year later, Deerhoof released the politically informed Mountain Moves, a call to resistance that featured collaborations with artists including Laetitia Sadier, Wye Oak's Jenn Wasner, and Juana Molina, and covers of songs by the Staple Singers and Bob Marley.
“ This influx of new voices finds Deerhoof exploring a number of different styles and sounds, all the while keeping that chaotic exuberance they are known for.” - Exclaim
