Join two of our greatest Shakespearians – Greg Doran and David Tennant – for deeply personal insights into the passion and craft of bringing Shakespeare to life.

‘One of the great Shakespearians of his generation’ (Sunday Times), Greg Doran was Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company from 2012 to 2022. During his illustrious career Greg has achieved the milestone of directing or producing every single play in Shakespeare’s First Folio – with his collaborators including the most distinguished actors of our age, from Judi Dench to Patrick Stewart, Paterson Joseph to his late husband Antony Sher.

Among this number, David Tennant has proven himself time and again to be the leading Shakespearean actor of his generation. Starring in Greg’s landmark productions as Hamlet, Richard II, he found unexpected comedy in the Prince of Denmark and sympathy and pathos in the wastrel Richard – and delighted audiences, too, in the role of Berowne in Love’s Labour’s Lost.

Together Greg and David join us to shed new light on the greatest of plays, share the energy, discoveries, and agonies of bringing the Bard to life in the 21st century. How did Nelson Mandela inspire a production of Julius Caesar? What has arachnophobia got to do with Macbeth? And how did an RSC supporter bequeath his skull to ‘play’ Yorick in Hamlet? With stories from inside and outside the rehearsal room, this is an unmissable chance to understand the craft of playmaking at the highest level.
