About Jay Z

With his autobiographical, gritty rhymes and on-stage swagger, Jay Z is undisputed rapper royalty. Born Shawn Carter in 1969, the performer has racked up an impressive ten number one albums during his illustrious career and his popularity shows no sign of waning. He has also sold in excess of 70 million records and received a host of prestigious accolades, including 19 Grammy Awards. In 2006, MTV ranked him top in their list of the Greatest MCs of All Time. Three of the star’s LPs, ‘Reasonable Doubt’, ‘The Blueprint’ and ‘The Black Album’ featured in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Seeing Jay Z live is truly awe-inspiring. After all, the hip-hop artist hasn’t earned his fortune and amassed a global legion of fans without knowing how to put on a show. If you’re lucky enough to get tickets for a Jay Z tour, you can expect a dazzling, multi-sensory experience.

The rapper and music producer has climbed his way to the highest echelons of the showbiz world from humble beginnings. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he grew up in difficult circumstances. However, in 1996, he and two friends, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, formed Roc-A-Fella Records and, against the odds, released Jay Z’s debut LP ‘Reasonable Doubt’. The record offered a candid insight into his early life and, although it only achieved modest success at the time, it proved hugely influential in the genre.

Since this point, his career has been a rollercoaster ride of record releases, globetrotting stage appearances and high-profile professional collaborations, including those with his wife and fellow A-lister Beyoncé Knowles.

Demand for Jay Z tickets extends far beyond diehard hip-hop fans too. Highlighting this fact, the rapper headlined the traditionally guitar-centric Glastonbury in 2008, where he first played part of the Oasis classic ‘Wonderwall’ on acoustic guitar before breaking into a rendition of his track ’99 Problems’. His 2009 album ‘The Blueprint’ showcases a variety of musical styles, ranging from rock to electropop. One of the most popular tracks from the record is the tribute to New York City entitled ‘Empire State of Mind’, which features vocals from Alicia Keys.

In July 2013, the artist released his 12th studio album, ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’. His first UK number one album, it features guest appearances from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Frank Ocean and Beyoncé.
