From his work with Miles Davis in his ground-breaking fusion era, to his landmark projects such as Mahavisnhu and Shakti, and his collaborations with Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, Carlos Santana and Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin paved the way to jazz/rock fusion, and had been one of the defining voices of the guitar over the past five decades, constantly refreshing his sound exploring into blues, flamenco, and Indian music.
