The band has always straddled numerous genres " speed metal, thrash metal, gold old-fashioned rock n’ roll " seemingly always at least one step ahead of their contemporaries. Leaders not followers, they play a brand of rock that sells millions without ever vaguely sounding like selling out " a tough act to keep up decade after decade. But keep it up they have, winning legions of new fans along the way, drawn to Lemmy’s rebellious but fun loving ways, edgy lyrics and tunes that find away of embedding themselves into your conscious and then refusing to let go. Their discography is too extensive to list here but it all adds up to 22 studio albums, 10 live recording and a dozen compilations, resulting in over 15 million records sold worldwide. The latest, Bad Magic, was released in August 2015 and reached number 10 in the UK album chart, and number 35 on the US Billboard 200. Described by the guardian as “indecently thrilling and imbued with a sense of vitality and danger that most bands of this ¬" or, indeed any " vintage can only dream about” it sees the band on top form. This is timeless, energetic rock with enough swagger to close with a cover of the Rolling Stones’ Sympathy for the Devil.
