About Super Furry Animals
Psychedelic indie band Super Furry Animals have continued to delight and excite with their ever original tunes that span from truly touching and heart-warming to all out crazed rock, touching on a bit of dance beats and mariachi along the way. The Welsh heroes have amassed nine studio albums and have consistently dominated the charts since their early nineties inception.
The band pits drummer Dafydd Leuas, lead guitarist Huw Bunford, keyboardist Cian Ciaran, singer and guitarist Gruff Rhys plus bassist Guto Pryce in a sonic assault against sanity.
“There’s a case to be argued that SFA are the most important band of the past 15 years” - NME
SFA were clear right from the outset of their intention to blend Welsh language and culture with contemporary music and subversive humour, as shown with their very first EP release entitled Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (In Space). The debut EP till holds the Guinness Book Of Records listing for the longest ever EP title in the world. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (In Space) was quickly followed by a second EP Moog Droog and as word spread of the recordings and amazing live performances they were soon signed to the indie label of the day Creation Records.
The label backing drew greater media interest and their debut Creation single Hometown Unicorn was selected by Pulp to be NME’s Single Of The Week. Their first album Fuzzy Logic enjoyed great critical acclaim and chimed with listening audiences who sent it to #23 in the UK Charts upon its release in 1996. After releasing the limited edition stand-alone single The Man Don’t Give A Fuck, they brought out second album Radiator in 1997 which enjoyed even greater success shooting up to #8 in the charts.
Oddly, the band were declared Best New Band by NME readers in 1999 despite having already made a real impact on the charts. This accolade just preceded the release of their breakthrough album Guerrilla which made them a household name with the singles Northern Lights and Fire In My Heart.
The band have continued to develop and investigate ever more interesting sounds and weird lyrical ideas with their rich list of recordings including Mwng (2000), Rings Around The World (2001), Phantom Power (2003), Love Kraft (2005), Hey Venus! (2007) and, their latest release to date, Dark Days/Light Years (2009).
