London-based, six-piece instrumental ensemble Tanhai Collective, are set to release new album ‘In Lane’ on the 15th November. Taking inspiration from jazz funk and the jazzier end of post rock, their groove heavy, melodic sounds utilise 70’s production and recording techniques, resulting in an explosive, dubbed out sound and showcases their reverence for the post-bop era, carving their own stamp in the UK Jazz scene.
With members coming through the prestigious London institution Tomorrow's Warriors, and meeting while performing at the Brixton Windmill Tanhai Collective went on to win the 2021 LambethEmerging Artist competition judged by Norman Jay MBE, resulting in a performance at the Cross The Tracks Festival for only their second ever live show. Debut EP ‘The Tanifesto’, was released in 2023, laying the groundwork for a solid modern jazz sound.
Having already received critical acclaim from tastemakers including Jazzwise, Gilles Peterson, Crack, Mixmag, Clash and Sound of Life among others, ‘In Lane’ presents a range and focus to a band gaining control of their own sound. Combining elements from leftfield post rock and alternative jazz with tight grooves and memorable melodies that has become the hallmark of the new wave of UK Jazz.
