William McCarthy came to prominence working in the Brooklyn based indie rock band Augustines. Following the bands split, McCarthy now embarks on his solo career.

Augustines brought their debut album came out in 2011 and was titled Rise Ye Sunken Ships. Accompanied by a now legendary tour, the album featured the hit single Book Of James named by Music Fix and The Sun their Single Of The Week.

In 2014 they released their eponymously titled second album; Augustines. Produced by Peter Katis who has worked on other fantastic bands and artists such as Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks and Jónsi Birgisson. The band already had won a reputation for incredible live shows, and it was noted by fans and press that their performances became even greater as they played their first headline tour in the US and played to packed out venues. The band returned to the UK in triumph and played to 3,000 fans in London Roundhouse as documented in their film Rise.

In 2016, they released the album This Is Your Life which would prove to the their last. Widely critically acclaimed, it would also enjoy modest commercial success.
